Carrillo, Marie (PERU)
Graduate school.
I would like to thank everybody in the program that made possible for me to learn the language. The angels were Alea Cot, Elizabeth Nazar, Jeanine Hubert, Liz Anderson, Brian Ary, Dorie Cavey, Dana Criswell and much more amazing people. These were people who worked so hard so we all (the international students) had a great experience while being part of the program.

After comparing tons of language programs in different cities all over U.S, I decided to take part of this one. For sure, after nine years that I was an “ielpinean” I must say, it was one of the best decisions I could have made.
I personally achieved the six levels of IELP and after; I pursued a B.A degree at U.N.O.
Today I live in Europe, go to graduate school -in the English language, of course- and own a little company.

The IELP language program was complete. We all had plenty of grammar, reading, listening and most important speaking exercises including phonetics (awareness on how to pronounce words was very important in the process of learning!). Adding up, our teachers tried to help us as much as they could. They were all ready to answer any questions at any time when necessary. On the other hand, one of the most important things for success was the persistency of our conversation partners, people who voluntarily offered their valuable time to help. So we had to speak! Speak, speak and try more! It was fun!

In addition we all had lots of events! As part of the agenda we were taken to museums, the zoo, the swamps, bowling, crawfish festivals, meetings, and international days (with great buffets) As a plus, some friends we made became people for lifetime.

New Orleans, as the land of Mardi Gras and jazz is fantastic. History, people, architecture, food, music and traditions make this city a great place to live: people are nice and friendly overall.
There is the French Quarter with remarkable old European architecture from the XIV century, with beautiful houses, mansions and plantations. On the other hand, if you all like jazz, New Orleans is the birthplace of jazz, so you will the fortune to find incredible performers everywhere in the city. As same, the city is good for sports. You might also enjoy close contact with nature and go hiking or visiting the swamps.
You will also have the opportunity to try the great food, influenced by the Cajun Creole cuisine. Thus, have a bite on the po-boys, jambalayas, Louisiana fresh seafood, juicy steaks, gumbo soup, hurricane drinks. Mmmm, yummy!

If you decide to take the courses I wish you the best time. Most of all have a great learning and interacting with the language and the culture. You will never ever regret such an experience.

Thanks IELP, again.
See you later alligator.
