Dana Criswell:
I like to start a great Saturday with breakfast at Elizabeth’s in the Bywater neighborhood. After that like to stop by the farmer’s market that takes place every Saturday at the corner of Girod and Magazine Streets between 8:00 AM and Noon. There you can buy fresh produce from small local farms, shrimp and other seafood, homemade cheeses, and fresh baked bread. Sometimes there are musical performances and cooking demonstrations.
In the afternoon, my favorite thing to do is to spend lots of time browsing through books in used book stores. There are about 10 of them in the French Quarter – you can pick up a map of all the used bookstores in New Orleans at any of these shops. My two favorites are Beckham’s Book Store (228 Decatur Street) and Crescent City Books (410 Dauphine Street).
In the evening, I like to go to the movies or to see live theater. My favorite movie theater is the Canal Place Cinema at the Shops at Canal (365 Canal Street). The Southern Rep Theater, which offers several plays during the year, is in the same building. |
