We are taking our students and teachers and staff on a field trip to see the Bonnet Carre Spillway and to Bayou Segnette State Park for a day of fun in the beautiful Spring weather here in New Orleans.

The Bonnet Carre Spillway is a safety feature that we have so that if the Mississippi River water gets high, engineers can open a wall and let some river water flow into the lake. This is only the 9th time that this has happened since it was built in 1930.

Later we will go to Bayou Segnette State park. We will get to take a nature hike, have lunch, and play games. It should be a wonderful day.

The Intensive English Language Program at the University of New Orleans offers one of the most effective and most diverse language programs in the United States. The IELP is designed especially for non-native English speakers who plan to study at an American university or who wish to improve their English for personal or professional reasons.

We currently have 90 students from 35 different countries improving their English in the IELP. Since 1995, more the 1500 students from over 120 different countries have improved their English skills in the IELP. More than 500 of those students have gone on to earn degrees at the University of New Orleans.
